International Theatre Afternoon Galway

In July 2025, Galway becomes a vibrant stage for multilingual performance and cultural dialogue. As part of the phōnē series of International Theatre Festivals, Fíbín hosted the Internatial tehatre Afternoon at An Taibhdhearc and welcomes artists and audiences from across Europe to share work, ideas, and perspectives.

On 25 July the programme begins with the opening night of An Fear Liath, a site-specific Irish-language production set in Galway Harbour. During the day, all guests have the chance to experience the Galway International Arts Festival – a colourful celebration of music, theatre, and visual art in the streets, venues, and public spaces of the city.

The International Theatre Afternoon on 26 July features a curated selection of performances, including a Frisian monologue from Fanfare by Tryater and the Galician production Os Actos e as Profecías by CDG. Following the performances, an after-show talk with the Mayor of Galway invites artists and audiences into a conversation on theatre, language, and the public sphere. The event brings together cultural and political perspectives – demonstrating how international artistic exchange can open space for shared reflection on identity, memory, and change.

In the evening, An Fear Liath is performed again – this time with English subtitles, allowing international guests to fully engage with the story.
