“The King of the Klezmers” is a contemporary play written by Daniel Galay, an acclaimed Yiddish-language playwright with an impressive artistic record, author of several volumes of contemporary Yiddish drama. The show is a musical comedy, conceived in a slapstick style, which tells the story of rivalries in the world of musicians, involving the contradictions of contemporary society (corruption, elections, etc.) on various levels. Dealing in a light-hearted manner with serious issues, in a manner typical of comedy buffe, the show is a reconsideration of the main themes of Jewish drama (family, the role of women, politics and its social implications).
