The well-known and beloved actress Maia Morgenstern was born on the first day of May, in 1962. After graduating from the Theater and Cinematography Institute, in 1985, she played on the stage of the Youth Theater in Piatra Neamţ. On the stage of the Jewish State Theater, where she has been manager since 2012, she played outstanding roles in ”Tonight: Lola Blau”, ”The Kings Game”, ”Driving Miss Daisy”, ”Park the Car at Harvard”. On the stage of the National Theater of Bucharest, she played roles in ”A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, ”The Visit”, ”The Cherry Orchard”, ”Catherine the Great”. She played alson on other theaters stages – in Bucharest and in the rest of the country – Bulandra Theater, Odeon Theater, Small Theater, “Radu Stanca” National Theater, in Sibiu, as well as with other personalities from the world of theater and film abroad. We can see her in movies like ”The Secret of Bacchus”, ”The Balance”, ”The Beloved of the Earthlings”, ”Orient Express”, ”The Passion of the Christ”, ”The End of Silence”, ”The Secret of Polichinelle” or ”Miss Christina”.

Her talent and tireless work have been rewarded with awards and distinctions, including: Award for Best Actress at the Emma Festival (London), for the role of Mary in ”The Passion of Christ”, the Silver Bear, at the Berlin Film Festival and Felix Award, from the European Film Academy, for the role of Nela in the film ”The Balance”, UNITER Award for Best Actress, for the role of Medeea in ”The Ancient Trilogy”, and Lola Blau in ”Tonight: Lola Blau”, Order of Arts and Letters in the rank of Knight, in France, the Royal Order “Nihil Sine Deo”. The European Parliament in Strasbourg named her Actress and Woman of the Year in 2003. In 2017 she received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa Artis from the West University of Timișoara, and in 2018 she became an Honorary Citizen of Bucharest.
